We create standards for Calgarians to live by.
Guided by our mission — inspiring pride and well-being in Calgary’s diverse communities — Calgary Community Standards delivers a variety of services that help to protect the safety of citizens and encourage positive neighbour relationships.
Business Licensing
We license and regulate business owners who operate in Calgary so citizens can be assured that businesses comply with legislation and bylaws that apply to them, and they operate according to the proper regulations and standards.
Bylaw Education & Compliance
We educate Calgarians and enforce most City’s bylaws as well as provincial legislation.
We also steward the Community Standards Bylaw for promoting good neighbour relationships including graffiti, noise, untidy properties and fire pits.

Calgary 9-1-1
We provide 9-1-1 service for citizens by evaluating and dispatching 9-1-1 emergency and non-emergency calls for the Calgary Police Service, Calgary Fire Department and Alberta Health Services Emergency Medical Services in Calgary.
We also evaluate and dispatch fire calls for Rockyview County, M.D. of Bighorn and seven additional communities.
Responsible Pet Ownership & Licensing
We educate Calgarians on responsible pet ownership, regulate pet owners under the Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw and encourage positive interactions between pet owners, animals and the public.
We provide quality licensing service including easy access to online information and services and we also provide shelter services for lost pets, adoption services and animal licensing services.
Strategic Services
We develop bylaws, council reports and business plans. Strategic Services also supports operational services and deliver community outreach initiatives focused on prevention and education.
We coordinate the following internal and external partnerships and funding agreements:
Taxi, Limousine & Rideshare (Transportation Network Companies)
We regulate and license livery service operators according to the requirements of the Livery Transport Bylaw to ensure public safety, consumer protection and service quality.
