Prairie Winds Park

Prairie Winds Park is a vital part of Calgary's northeast communities. This large destination park was redeveloped in 2016/2017 with added features including the playscape and upgraded wading pool.

About the park

The park opened on September 8, 1990, with a gazebo in the Grant MacEwan grove, where 90 trees were planted for his 90th birthday. It then underwent an 11.9 million-dollar renovation from 2014 to 2017.

Due to its proximity to the Calgary Airport, Prairie Winds Park does not permit the use of drones, kites, model planes, balloons, or other airborne devices.

Construction update

Prairie Winds wading pool closed for 2024; the spray park is open!

The Prairie Winds wading pool will be closed for the 2024 season due to some ongoing repair work. The Prairie Winds spray park is open.

    Prairie Winds Park offers such features as tennis courts, playgrounds, a basketball court, winter skating and winter sledding hill. In the spring/summer there is also a spray park, lazy river and wading pool.

    Calgary Recreation facilitates the bookings of open public park spaces for various outdoor activities, including weddings, fundraising events, performances walks/runs, etc.
