Event planning resources

Please note: The 2017 Canada Day Celebrations, which include 14 community partner locations, will be one of the largest single day festivals our city has hosted.

In order for us to maintain public safety levels, The City will not be able to accept any additional requests for events that require City services for June 30th or July 1st 2017. Canada 150 celebrations are meant to occur throughout the 2017 calendar year, and we encourage those wanting to stage events that require City services to choose other dates for your celebrations so that we may support your efforts appropriately. A list of all the events planned to date can be found at

Event Opportunity Form

If you are planning to host a new event on City land that will involve any of the following:

  • Serving alcohol
  • Fireworks or other types of pyrotechnic displays
  • Setting up 1 or more tents or stages with a combined area of greater than 600 sq. ft.
  • Utilizing parks or pathways AND roadways or sidewalks

Please complete an Event Opportunity Form or call 403-476-4304 for more information.

If none of the above items are necessary, you can simply submit a Special Event Greenspace Application. Please see Book a park, pathway or greenspace for access to the application.

We will then contact you with further information. In some cases a liaison from Event Services will be assigned to work with you and provide support for your event. These liaisons will be your direct contact or link to all City departments.

The application process involves a comprehensive review by the Interdepartmental Event Team. This team consists of representatives from City Business Units including Parks, Roads, Calgary Police Service, Calgary Fire Department, Bylaw, Waste and Recycling Services, Development and Building Approvals, Corporate Properties, Corporate Security, Calgary Emergency Management Agency, in addition to several arms length partners such as Alberta Health Services, the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission, and Emergency Medical Services.

Renewing your festival or event
