Crowchild Trail N.W. Paving

Project update - May 2025

Work on Crowchild Trail N.W. and several on/off ramps was completed in 2024. Resurfacing the remaining on/off ramps is expected to get underway on May 23, with anticipated completion in mid-June.

Construction is expected to start at the Shaganappi Trail N.W. ramp and includes on/off ramps at 53 Street N.W., Sarcee Trail N.W., Nose Hill Drive N.W. and Crowfoot Parade N.W.

Milling and paving work will be completed during nighttime hours to minimize impacts on commuter traffic. 

Tentative 2025 construction timelines

Late May – mid-June

  • Milling and paving on/off ramps
  • Slurry sealing on Crowchild Trail N.W.

Note: Road construction timelines are dependent on several factors (e.g. weather, site conditions, materials availability) and are subject to change.

Impacts on traffic and area

We recognize that this work may cause some inconvenience to your community, and we are committed to minimizing these impacts.

  • Ramp closures: 1-2 lanes will remain open. Please follow posted road signs. Overnight on/off ramp closures will be in effect with advance notice provided.
  • Nighttime Work: Milling and paving 7 days a week from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Noise and Vibrations: Residents may experience construction noise and vibrations. Efforts will be made to minimize disruption.
  • Uneven Driving Surfaces: During construction, drivers may encounter temporary ramped and grooved asphalt, and raised utility manholes. Drive with caution and watch for warning signage.
  • Transit: Transit along Crowchild Tr N.W. may be impacted by ramp closures. Visit calgarytransit.com for more information.

About the project

As part of the Annual Paving Program, The City of Calgary completed road maintenance on Crowchild Trail N.W., from Stoney Trail N.W. to 32 Ave N.W. This construction work is essential to ensure the safety and longevity of our roads and sidewalks, helping to prevent more costly and disruptive reconstruction in the future. The full scope of work included asphalt roadway repair and replacement, as well as localized concrete repair and replacement of sidewalks, wheelchair ramps, curbs, barriers, and gutters to improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians and other users.

The construction cost is for the full Crowchild Trail N.W. project is $7.3 million
