Feeder main repair milestones - lift water restrictions

Repair updates

This repair is complete. Thank you Calgary. We are planning additional pipe reinforcement work to start in Spring 2026.

The repair will take place when the flows from the Elbow River and Glenmore Reservoir are higher.

We cannot guarantee that the pipe won't break unexpectedly again. If this happens before we can complete our planned reinforcements, we will move immediately to do some of reinforcement repairs at the same time as the break is being repaired.

During the repair work, water restrictions will be required again.

Repair information will be posted on the Bearspaw South Feeder Main Improvements Project page.

Traffic impacts

16 Ave. N.W. fully reopened

All east and westbound lanes of 16th Ave. N.W. have fully reopened.

Protecting the community

Now that the pipe has been stabilized, we’re reviewing all community mitigation measures to decide which ones are still needed. Some will be removed, while others will stay in place.

Steps taken to protect communities

  • We removed two segments of the Bow River flood barrier along Montgomery Blvd. N.W. across from Bow View Manor.
  • We placed temporary barriers along the Bow River pathway next to Parkdale Blvd. N.W.
  • We cleared catch basins, opened outflows to the river and changed manhole covers in a number of areas.
