2 St. S.W. Complete street project

Project update - October 2019

After getting feedback from the community, The City of Calgary has a final design for the 2 Street S.W. Complete Street Project. During both phases of engagement held in June 2018, and November 2018, we heard that there was a desire from the community for protected on-street cycling facilities, and a desire to maintain two-way traffic on 2 Street S.W.

Join us on October 30, 2019 between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. at the Cliff Bungalow-Mission Community Centre to see the design and speak to the project team.

The final design includes a cycle track on the east and west side of 2 Street S.W., curb extension at seven intersections, and three Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB) at three intersections for safer pedestrian crossing, and a new traffic signal at 2 Street and 13 Avenue S.W.

If you can’t make it to the information session, have a look at the final design:

Project overview

The City is upgrading the existing bikeway along 2 Street S.W., from 10 Avenue to 26 Avenue. This section of roadway is well used and scheduled to be resurfaced. As part of the resurfacing work, we are planning to upgrade the existing shared driving and cycling lane and install curb extensions to make it safer for people to cross the road.

These changes will improve the walking and cycling experience, provide better access and connections to key destinations in this area, and connect to the existing cycle track and pathway system.

Engagement

Input from the community and the public has helped us create and refine designs for the roadway. To review the design concepts that we asked for feedback on, and the engagement process, please visit the project engagement page.

The What We Heard report from the second phase of engagement is now complete. To review the What We Heard report please visit the project engagement page.
