Board administration
Board’s relationship to The City of Calgary
The Calgary ARB is independent from The City of Calgary in rule-making, conduct of hearings, deliberations and decision making. However, The City of Calgary provides support staff, pay for Board members, facilities, equipment, technology, and independent legal help for the ARB. The City Clerk manages the budget, support and resources for the ARB.
Board members and General Chair
ARB members report to the General Chair about administrative matters. The General Chair makes rules, procedures, and policies for running the Assessment Review Board.
ARB panels hear complaints and write decisions without help from ARB staff. The staff then distributes the decisions to the participants, records the decisions in the ARB’s online system and submits them to CanLII for publication.
Administrative support
Administrative support staff help the Board and make sure its operations are open and accessible. Some of their many roles include:
- Making sure the complaint process follows the laws and regulations.
- Receiving and processing all complaints and fees.
- Notifying everyone of hearing dates, times, and submission deadlines.
- Assembling documents submitted by all parties into a file for the Board to review.
- Helping prepare a record of the hearing proceedings.
- Distributing Board decisions once signed by the Presiding Officers.
- Providing the courts with required records of the hearing if there is an appeal.
- Working with the Board to offer learning and development opportunities for members.
