Middle East and Europe communities
Emigration to Alberta from the Middle East has been ongoing for more than 100 years. Calgary’s Middle East communities are strong, vibrant and bring so much to culture our city. To help meet the specific needs of Middle East communities, the Calgary Police Service helps new Canadians adjust to the police and law in Canada.
The Calgary Police Service Middle East and Europe community liaison officer works with people from more than 60 countries with diverse social, cultural and religious backgrounds. The liaison officer provides a vital link between police and Middle East communities by building an open channel of communication and demonstrating our Service supports all Calgarians. The liaison officer also meets with various community agencies and representatives, immigrant-serving agencies and individual members of the community. The liaison officer also attends cultural events and celebrations, many of which follow the lunar calendar, and therefore do not occur at the same time every year, but rather move ahead each year.
Involvement includes, but is not limited to:
- The Calgary Jewish Federation
- The Muslim Council of Calgary
- The Wellness Empowerment Program
- The Calgary Islamic School
- The Muslim Association of Calgary
- The Muslim Community Foundation of Calgary
- The Islamic Centre of South Calgary
- Muslim Association of Canada
