Traffic safety and education
The Calgary Police Service (CPS) Traffic Education Unit (TEU) offers the following safety and education services to citizens, communities, organizations and schools.
"Safe Driving to Save Lives" seminars
The two-hour, free of charge, interactive seminar covers a wide variety of associated topics and can be done in-house. It is suitable for any company or corporation that has no traffic safety training in place, through to those that already have health and safety programs but are looking to enhance their training free of charge.

School presentations
The TEU attends schools for traffic safety presentations. They are presented to Grade 9 and Grade 11 students as this is the ages when they could be getting their learners license (Class 7) and their driver’s license (Class 5).
Car seats
The TEU is trained in car seat installation and can provide information to you but the CPS cannot physically install your car seat for you. We recommend that you read the car seat manual as well as your vehicle manual in relation to installation. There are hundreds of different car seats and hundreds of different vehicles. Some car seats may not be suitable for the vehicle you drive so we recommend you educate yourself on what is best for your situation.

The TEU partners with the AMA in the School Safety Patrol Program at local schools in Calgary. For information on this program contact the TEU at 403-567-4000; AMA at 403-240-5400; or visit the AMA website.
Child restraint check stops
These check stops are a monthly program at different locations in the city. The TEU in partnership with EMS/Fire and health nurses will pull vehicles in to check for proper installation of car seats.
P.A.R.T.Y. program (Prevent Alcohol and Risk-Related Trauma in Youth).
This program is held at the Foothills Hospital for Grade 9 students and is an all day event.
Safe grad
The TEU brings the check stop bus and our "crash trailer" to the high schools during the months leading up to graduation.
The truck unit
This unit:
- educates the general public with specific answers to questions on commercial vehicles;
- provide companies with presentations in relation to vehicle safety and regulation; and,
- conduct commercial vehicle check stops randomly throughout the city in conjunction with other organizations.
