Junior Police Academy

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a police officer? The Calgary Police Service Junior Police Academy gives youth aged 12 to 16 the opportunity to find out.

Junior Police Academy runs three times a year.

The 2025 Junior Police Academy sessions are:

  • Sunday (evening), March 23 to Friday, March 28, 2025 (Spring Break)
  • Sunday (evening), July 13 to Friday, July 18, 2025
  • Sunday (evening), Aug. 10 to Friday, Aug. 15, 2025

There are up to 32 spots available per session.

Youth registered in the Junior Police Academy will get an immersive experience into the world of a Calgary police officer, covering various aspects of law enforcement, including:

  • HAWCS helicopters
  • K9
  • Mounted Unit
  • Crime Scene Unit
  • Tactical Team
  • Traffic Unit
  • and more.

Youth will also participate in presentations from front line police officers, the Violent Crimes Suppression Team, and have the chance to learn about the history of the Calgary Police Service. The week concludes with participants marching on parade and receiving certificates.

If you're interested in joining the Junior Police Academy, submit the completed application form and these suggested items:

  • School reference with attendance and grade average.
  • Any volunteering experience.
  • Any extracurricular activities.
  • Include a short essay either on the application form or a separate document (minimum 250 words) expressing your interest in participating.

There are no costs associated with this program. Youth will be selected one month before the session begins and notified via email.

Successful applicants will go through an internal police background check and may have a 10-minute online interview with a member from the Youth Mentorship Team.
