Leveraging City-owned land to underpin growth
The Real Estate & Development Services (RE&DS) team has launched a long-term Industrial Land Statement, providing a robust framework for the development and servicing of City-owned industrial lands. This strategy is designed to enhance Calgary’s economy, support job creation, and make our city a vibrant place to work and live.
Our Industrial Land Development Program plays a critical role in achieving these objectives. Guided by City Council and citizen priorities, the program generates positive financial returns while delivering economic and social benefits. For example, 5% of all industrial land sales directly fund affordable housing initiatives, contributing to a healthy, diverse workforce and supporting economic development and resilience.
The strategy is underpinned by five key principles that ensure sustainable, transparent, and responsive decision-making through the 2023-2026 business cycle:
- Support economic resilience
- Deliver citizen and Corporate outcomes
- Run a sustainable, self-funded program
- Respond to market and customer needs
- Work in an open, transparent, and accountable manner
