Sport Hub
What is Sport Hub?
Sport Hub supports The City of Calgary’s Sport for Life Policy by delivering recreational sports programs to schools and communities and reducing barriers to participation in sport. By offering both school-based and community-based programs, we make it easier for families to access affordable, high-quality activities close to home.
What's next?
In 2025, Sport Hub will launch both school-based and community-based recreational sports programs, providing a balanced approach to youth engagement alongside the competitive sports model.
We are now focused on securing investment to establish Sport Hub as a sustainable program model in Calgary that offers:
- In-school and after-school sport programs
- Community sport programs (that develop sport and social skills)
- Access to local sport and physical activity organizations
- Dedicated support and programs for equity-deserving groups

Sport Hub pilot project
We conducted a three-year pilot from 2017-2020 that focused on:
-
Improving access to schools for sport organizations
-
Offering quality youth sport programs
-
Enhancing leadership opportunities in community sport
-
Reducing barriers to participation
-
Developing pathways to transition to higher level sport opportunities
Sport Hub pilot project results
Sport Hub collaborators delivered programs in the north-east communities of Castleridge, Coral Springs, Falconridge, Martindale, Saddle Ridge and Taradale, resulting in:
Jeremy Hill, Executive Director, Fencing CalgarySport Hub is a proven tool that can greatly benefit our sport organization. It drives new participants to our club programming while creating new opportunities for our coaches and volunteers to deliver quality instruction in the school and community setting.
Steve Cormier, Physical Education & Athletics Teacher, Crossing Park SchoolThe Sport Hub program provides support for how we (the education system) can realize positive physical education outcomes for students. Having a central platform to select different sport offerings and a variety of programming options for our school makes the process of organizing and delivering a specific sport module so much easier.
Burgundy Biletski, Executive Director, Field Hockey AlbertaThe after-school programming was a good opportunity for students to continue to keep playing something they enjoy. Prior to the Sport Hub, we never had access to schools to deliver programming
Female Student, Grade 10, Nelson Mandela High SchoolMy Sport Hub coaches were amazing. They taught me so many new volleyball skills and I enjoyed it so much that I decided to join my local volleyball club.
