Pedestrian bridges and structures
Public Spaces Delivery manages the design and construction of pedestrian bridges and structures that are within Calgary's transportation network. The current pedestrian bridges under design and construction were selected through the Pedestrian Bridge Feasibility Study (2015/2016). The remaining bridges were established through the 2015-2018 Action Plan’s Transportation Business Plan and Budget process.
The City also established the Centre City Underpass Enhancement Program as an important part in building a great downtown core, where visual art is mixed into existing public infrastructure. For Underpass Enhancements, The City of Calgary follows the Council approved Downtown Underpass Urban Design Guidelines.
The City of Calgary Design Guidelines for Bridges and Structures reflects the latest requirements for safety, durability, functionality and aesthetics of bridges and structures. A copy of the guidelines can be downloaded from the Planning & Development resource library.
