The Public Behaviour Bylaw in Calgary regulates social behaviours to ensure the enjoyment of public spaces. Here's an overview:

  • Fighting is prohibited in public areas.
  • Defecating and urinating are not allowed in public places or on private property if visible to the public.
  • Spitting on streets, sidewalks, pathways, or trails is not allowed.
  • No person shall loiter in a public place and thereby obstruct any other person.
  • Loitering that obstructs other people in public places is prohibited.
  • Standing or placing feet on tables, benches, planters, or sculptures in public areas is prohibited.
  • Carrying visible knives in public places is not allowed.
  • Harassing others in any public space accessible in Calgary, including sidewalks, restaurants, libraries, etc., is prohibited.

Fines for violations of these regulations range between $50 and $300.

Our Public Behaviour Bylaw was established to regulate problematic social behaviours that may have a negative impact on the enjoyment of public spaces in Calgary.

  • Your name and address
  • A primary and alternate phone number
  • The address and exact location of the property for which you wish to register a complaint
  • A brief and concise description of the complaint

This information will remain confidential. No anonymous complaints will be accepted - you must identify yourself with the 311 service representative.

Please include any related photos when reporting a complaint with the 311 app. This will assist the investigating officer.
