Bylaw violation tickets
If you receive a violation ticket for a bylaw infraction, you have the option to plead guilty or not guilty to the indicated offense.
If you plead guilty
You may utilize the Voluntary Payment Option, paying the specified amount by the court appearance date noted on the ticket.
Alternatively, you may appear before a Justice at the indicated address and date. If fined, you may discuss negotiating a payment schedule.
If you plead not guilty
You may formally declare your innocence by sending the signed violation ticket via registered mail to the address provided on the ticket. This must be completed by the indicated appearance date. It is important to retain the post office receipt as proof of mailing. Subsequently, you will receive notification of the trial date via regular mail to the address indicated on the ticket. Failure to receive this notice necessitates contacting the Court office by calling the toll-free number 310-0000 or visiting www.albertacourts.ab.ca to obtain the trial date.
Alternatively, you may appear before a Justice at the designated address and date on the ticket. Upon pleading not guilty, a trial date will be scheduled.
How do I order disclosure for a municipal offence?
Once you have received a Summons or Violation Ticket, you may order disclosure from the Prosecutions Section of the Law Department by completing and submitting a Disclosure Request Form.
