Canada Post
Operations during postal services disruption
Update
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has initiated strike action with a national overtime ban for employees. On May 21, Canada Post presented CUPW with global offers and received a response from CUPW on May 25 that they will review them in detail. As the situation remains fluid, The City of Calgary will follow business continuity measures during disruption of postal services until the situation is resolved.
The City of Calgary has implemented the following arrangements to ensure the continuity of customer service and business operations during disruption of postal services.
Many City of Calgary services are online. Online payments are accepted for some of these services, such as parking tickets, animal licences and home improvement project permits.
On this page:
- Payments to The City
- Transit passes and tickets
- Property and business assessment
- Payment of animal licences
- Planning and development inquiries
- Utility bill inquiries
- City payments to suppliers
- City deliveries
- Public hearing and quasi-judicial board submissions

Payments to The City
Normal payment deadlines apply.
Banks and financial institutions
Payments can be made at most banks either in person or through the banks online or telephone banking systems for:
- Utility bills
- Property and business taxes (when submitting payment, ensure adequate time for payments to be processed and received prior to the deadline.)
- Animal licences
- Corporate invoices
TIPP (Tax Instalment Payment Plan)
With TIPP, you pay the same amount as your annual property tax bill. But instead of paying one large lump sum payment in June, smaller monthly payments automatically come out of your bank the first day of every month. Smaller monthly payments help you save time and money by making your budgeting easier and removing the risk of late payment penalties. The 2025 property tax deadline doesn’t apply to property owners enrolled in TIPP by June 30. Property owners can join TIPP online quickly and easily.

Property tax and business
Property tax bills
On May 14, The City mailed approximately 585,000 property tax bills to residential and non-residential property owners. Property tax is due Monday, June 30.
A late payment penalty of seven per cent will be applied to any unpaid portion of property tax on July 1. The late payment penalty applies to all accounts that pay after the June 30 due date, including property owners who did not receive their tax bill in the mail.
The May 14 mailing was completed several weeks earlier than a typical year to ensure delivery of the bills prior to a potential postal strike. Property owners should receive their property tax bill in the mail by May 23. Property owners who have not received that bill by that time, can obtain a statement of contact by calling 311 or view their tax bill through our secure website calgary.ca/mytax.
To ensure your property tax payment is received by The City by the June 30 deadline, do not mail your property tax payment. We offer multiple ways for property owners to pay their tax bill, the most popular way is monthly, through The City’s Tax Instalment Payment Plan (TIPP). The property tax deadline doesn’t apply to property owners enrolled in TIPP by June 30. Learn more about payment options here Property tax payment options.
Property owners looking for information on payment options, as well as property tax assistance programs available to eligible homeowners, can visit calgary.ca/propertytax.
