We are unable to estimate your solar potential. There could be a number of reasons for this.

We recommend getting in touch with a solar provider to obtain an accurate assessment.

DISCLAIMER

The Solar Map is intended for information purposes only and as primary solar opportunity assessment tool. It is only intended to be used within the limits of City of Calgary.  It is not intended to be used as a decision making source of information for solar panel installations. Users are encouraged to contact solar system professionals who will carry out detailed site review, system design engineering, as well as installation and maintenance.

Please note that new or changed buildings since the data/ photograph dates will not be properly reflected in the Solar Potential Map.

Calculation of solar irradiance and the available roof area used to estimate the capacity of a PV installation on residential rooftops using LiDAR data and roof shape.

The PVWatts (generated by NREL) is then used to estimate annual AV generated by each panel. The relative position of building rooftops and structures, existsing intrastructure, and tree canopies are also accounted for. The total number of panels and their consumption is then summed to generate a solar potential for each address on an annual basis, in generalized optimal conditions.

Step 1

Economic and Environmental benefits are then about calculated using an installation cost of  $2.45/W and the offset cost from deferred electricity payments using a Regulated Rate of Return (RRO) with inflation over the life of the installation. The offset of the emissions over the lifetime of the system is calculated using the current  Alberta electric grid of 0.57tCO2/MWh.
