Alberta Open Farm Days, August 19-20

Looking for something to do this weekend? Want to learn more about where our meals come from and how Alberta producers bring food to our tables?

Alberta Open Farm Days is a two-day, family-friendly event where Alberta famers and producers open their doors and teach us about everything from honey production, bison farming, to craft breweries and more. The events will be running from August 19-20, and there’s something for everyone to enjoy!

This year, Alberta Open Farm Days is partnering with over 130 producers with diverse operations across the province. This is a great opportunity for people of all ages to celebrate Alberta agriculture, see where our food comes from and to meet the people who make it.

Just north of Airdrie, you can grab an ice cream and tour the Souto Farms Local Market with over 40 local vendors, check out the petting zoo, or jump on a bouncy castle.

If ranching’s more your thing, check out the Meatshop-Ranch complete with a farm tour, hay wagon, and artisan market featuring produce, brewery, axe throwing, spice/oils and more.

If you're in the mood for something sweet, go and see what the buzz is all about at the Long Grass Studio and Honey Bee Apiarios Estrella, and tour through their small hobby bee farm and honey shop!

If you’re looking for something closer to home, swing by the Highfield Regenerative Farm, which is the largest urban farm in Calgary. You can take part in a tour of their urban farm, join the Basil Ranch for an evening “Farm to Table” soiree, or sign up for a workshop and learn how to make homemade soap and flower crowns.
