Summer is out in full force and it’s the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors and visit Calgary’s many parks. This month, we're sharing tips on how to make the most of Calgary's beautiful walking paths, and what you can do to keep your home safe when the summer storms visit.
Parks Wayfinder: Discover Calgary Parks
Have you ever found yourself on a walking trail and suddenly realized you don't know the way to the nearest washroom or drinking fountain? Or maybe you're searching for the perfect place to play fetch with your furry friend in an off-leash area, and you don't know where to start.
We've created a handy tool to help you find all the amenities and parks in your area. The Parks Wayfinder Map is a tool that helps you search for the nearest washroom, drinking fountain, waste/recycling disposal, firepit, picnic table, off leash area, sports field, park vendor and other amenities available across Calgary.

When it Roars, Stay Indoors
Summer is a beautiful time of year to spend outside under the warm sun, but it’s also Calgary’s most active storm season. While storms can be mesmerizing and exciting, they can also be dangerous.
Summer storms often bring hail which can damage property and cause injuries. You can plan ahead by parking under shelter, securing items that might blow away, removing weak branches, and clearing debris from your yard.
During a storm, it’s best to stay in an enclosed building or hard-topped vehicle. Stay away from high ground, trees or telephone poles, picnic shelters and open spaces, to avoid being hit by lightning.

Four-legged friends seeking homes
The City has reinstated its adoption program to help more animals find homes. For a limited time, adopt your furever companion at Animal Services at a reduced rate!
Now only $100.00, the adoption fee covers:
- spay or neutering surgery
- microchip implant for identification
- a twelve-month City of Calgary licence
- first set of vaccinations (excluding rabies)
- de-worming
- a bag of pet food
By adopting from a local shelter, you can make a direct impact by saving a life and contributing to the overall welfare of animals in your area.

Purolator "Tackle Hunger"
Once again, Purolator is partnering with the Calgary Food Bank to serve meals to our neighbours in need. Together with a crew of hardworking volunteers, we visited Evanston to drop off red bags door-to-door. Countless residents filled the bags with food donations and they were collected a week later and sent to the Calgary Food Bank.
Thank you to Murray, Maddie, Neil, Jenny, Stacy, and everyone else for your hard work!

Missed the chance to help out? Not to worry! The next City-Wide Food Drive is happening on September 23, so mark your calendars! You can learn more about this upcoming initiative at the Calgary Food Bank website.
Hello Evanston! We had a great time chatting with neighbours and dropping off red bags to fill with food for those in need.
Stampede Week, 2023
And with that, Stampede 2023 has come to a close. We had such a blast meeting with our friends and neighbours from across Calgary, and our week was jam-packed with breakfasts, BBQs, and community events from across Ward 2.
A special shout-out to the Citadel Community Association, the Hawkwood Homeowners' Association, the Kincora Community Association, and the Nolan Hill Community Association (and countless volunteers!) for their hard work putting on these events. Each had such a great turnout and it meant so much to the community to be able to come out and meet our friends and neighbours and enjoy some delicious Stampede treats.
Here's to a great Stampede week, and we can't wait until next year!
