Presenting Camp Courage Calgary
I am excited to share information with you about Camp Courage Calgary, a camp for girls and young women that the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) is offering in partnership with the Calgary Police Service (CPS), Alberta Health Services-Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Calgary Police Youth Foundation (CPYF), and YouthLink.
Camp Courage Calgary is a 7-day camp for 24 young women, ages 15-18, that includes experiences with CPS, CFD and EMS. Instead of a fee, organizers ask the interested candidates to submit in writing how they can positively contribute to an individual or a community upon completion of Camp Courage. The camp will be held from July 4-10, 2022, with applications due on May 15, 2022 at midnight.
Camp Courage Calgary’s goal is to empower teen girls and help them build confidence and resilience through innovative thinking and mentorship from remarkable women role models. The camp has been developed to elicit interest in firefighting, policing and paramedicine. The camp is hosted by women first responders and is designed to share a glimpse of what it’s like to be a firefighter within the CFD, a police officer with the CPS and a paramedic with AHS. Sessions will also offer basic skills and knowledge to help participants learn more about what life is like as a first responder.
