Ward 7 - Terry Wong

4th Avenue Flyover Rehabilitation Project

Crews will start to mobilize on-site at the end of March/beginning of April.

Upcoming impacts are noted below:

-          To conduct site surveys, there will be off-peak single lane closures on the flyover from April 2nd to April 5th.

-          The flyover will be closed starting at 9 pm on Friday, April 5th, and will re-open at 5 am on Monday, April 8th.

-          Starting Monday, April 8th, one lane on the flyover will be closed at all times (24/7) and traffic will be reduced to a single lane.*

*We anticipate there will be two lanes open during stampede by temporarily reducing the work zone.

Throughout construction, there may be off-peak lane closures of underpass roads for overhead work. We will continue to update your office as we move forward. Please note: construction activities are dependent on several factors. Timelines may change due to inclement weather, complexity, supply chain, and/or other unexpected circumstances.

Understanding this project will be impactful, we kindly ask that you continue to visit the project webpage at Calgary.ca/4aveflyoverrehab for the most up-to-date information including traffic impacts and a link to sign up to receive email newsletters. This page will be updated, over the next 10 days, with the above information and maps showcasing the closures. We greatly appreciate you sharing the webpage via your channels.

It was recently brought to our attention that unconfirmed closure dates were shared prematurely with a key interested party. We have addressed this situation to prevent it from happening in the future as we want to ensure citizens are not misinformed leading up to and during construction. Our intent is to continuously communicate project updates with your team and adjacent ward offices as our first points of contact. If you have any questions or would like to set up a meeting, please contact me directly at (403) 818-5003 or Max.Lacroix@Calgary.ca.

Project Background

We are rehabilitating the 4th Avenue Flyover to improve the condition of the bridge. This work will include reconstruction of existing concrete barriers, replacement of the existing concrete paving overlay with a Polymer-Modified Asphalt (PMA) overlay, replacement of existing expansion joints, addition of streetlights, and other general concrete repairs across the structure.
