2025 Calgary Catholic School District By-election

To be eligible as a candidate, you must:

• Be at least 18 years old.
• Be a Canadian citizen.
• Live within the boundaries of the school division for the 6 consecutive months immediately preceding Nomination Day (Jan. 3, 2025).
• Meet the requirements in Section 74(3) of the Education Act.

You do not have to live in the CCSD ward you wish to represent.

Who cannot be a candidate?

You cannot be a candidate if you:

• are an auditor of the CCSD,
• are an employee of the CCSD who has not taken a leave of absence before Nomination Day,
• have been convicted of an offence in the last 10 years under the Local Authorities Election Act, the Election Act, the Election Finances and Contributions Disclosure Act or the Canada Elections Act (federal),
• are serving an ineligibility period due to your name appearing in a non-compliance report to the CCSD.

• Form 4 Nomination Paper and Candidate’s Acceptance
• Form 4 Supplemental
• Form 5 Candidate Financial Information
• Candidate and official agent contact information form
• Deposit

Obtain a minimum of 25 signatures (Form 4)

• Signatures must be from eligible voters who live within the school district ward you wish to represent.
• Original hand-written signatures are required. Digital signatures are not accepted.
• We recommend you collect more than the minimum number of signatures in case any signatures have missing or illegible information.

Pay a deposit

Each candidate must pay a $100 deposit.

• The deposit can be paid by cash, certified cheque or money order.
• Cheques and money orders must be payable to “The City of Calgary.”
• Personal cheques are not accepted. Do not send cash deposits in the mail.

File nomination

Deadline: You must file your nomination on or before Jan. 3, 2025 at noon.

File your nomination in-person or by mail or courier.

In-person: File in-person at the Elections Calgary office. To book your appointment, call Elections Calgary at 403-476-4100 (select option 3) or email candidates@calgary.ca. Another person may file the nomination on your behalf. You are responsible for ensuring the nomination is accurate and complete.
