Various Street Improvements Program
The Various Street Improvements (VSI) Program ensures Calgarians have a safe and smooth ride to their destination - whether you are driving, walking, or wheeling.
From April through November, we work on projects across the city to upgrade our roads, sidewalks, and pathways. By performing this proactive maintenance now, we can prevent the need for much more expensive and disruptive repairs in the future.
These projects are carefully prioritized based on safety, accessibility, and long-term community visions. This ensures our work aligns with the unique needs and future growth of your neighborhood.
This program includes:
- Safety upgrades: better intersections, turn lanes, and traffic calming features.
- Better connections: new or repaired sidewalks, pathways, and transit facilities.
- Infrastructure care: improvements to drainage and existing roadways to keep our network reliable.
Projects may take a few days to a few months to complete. Locations are marked on the Roadway activities map. Please note, locations may be added, removed or delayed due to budget availability and coordination with other City projects and initiatives. Additional project information will be added to this page once available.

Frequently asked questions
Why is this work necessary?
Our city is growing, and our streets need to keep up. This means when a neighborhood evolves with new housing or businesses, we update the surrounding infrastructure, like transit facilities and pathways, to make sure the area remains walkable, vibrant, and easy to navigate for years to come. This work is also essential to ensuring all Calgarians have a safe, smooth, and reliable journey to their destination, whether you are driving to work, cycling through your neighborhood, or walking to a local park.
Where can I find out if there is construction happening in my neighborhood?
You can view all active and upcoming projects on the Calgary Roadway Activities Map. We also provide updates through this webpage and work closely with Ward Offices and Community Associations to share information.
How will I be notified about upcoming work?
Before construction begins, we make sure affected residents and businesses are informed. Depending on the scale of the project, you will be notified in one or more of the following ways:
- On-site Construction Signs: You may see yellow construction signs posted in the area a few days before work starts to alert the community and commuters.
- Online Updates: For larger improvements, we update this webpage and may share information directly with your local community association.
How can I ask a question or report a concern about a project site?
We value your feedback. If you have questions about construction noise, dust, or site safety, please contact 311. Reporting through 311 ensures your concern is sent to the right project team immediately. You can also contact the program team at any time at improvements@calgary.ca.
