Downtown skating rinks

Check out these fantastic downtown skating rinks! 

Please note that the difficult decision was made not to provide public ice skating or the tree this year at Olympic Plaza. This is due to the decommissioning of the ice plant this past spring and in preparation for the plaza’s early January 2025 closure for the Arts Commons Transformation Project. Please see below for information on other downtown skating rinks.

Barb Scott Park

  • Skating Hours: 5 a.m. - 11 p.m. daily.
  • Address: 12th Ave. and Ninth St. S.W.
  • Amenities: Looking for some extra holiday sparkle? Barb Scott Park features a stunning Christmas tree, adding warmth and cheer to your winter adventures. You’ll also find the Chinook Arc Interactive Sculpture and ample benches for seating.

Thomson Family Park

  • Skating Hours: 5 a.m. - 11 p.m. daily.
  • Address: 1236 16th Ave. S.W.
  • Amenities: This sweet park features walkways, picnic areas and a playground.

Prince’s Island Park Lagoon

  • Skating Hours: 10 a.m. –11 p.m.
  • Address: Fourth St. and First Ave. S.W.
  • Amenities: Prince’s Island Park has been recognized as an urban oasis and is an important contributor to the cultural and recreational quality of life for Calgarians. There’s plenty to explore including a Crokicurl rink, a cross-country skiing track, a playground, pathway, hiking trails and the Remembering Our Children virtual art installation.

New Pop-Up Rink at Lot 6

Skating Hours: 8 a.m. - 9 p.m. daily.
Address: 311 8th St. S.W.
Amenities: This new pop-up rink features firepits that will be restocked with firewood during rink hours.
