Fire Cadet awards and scholarships
When Fire Cadets graduate each June, their achievements as individuals and as a class are celebrated. Each year, the following awards and scholarships are awarded to graduating Fire Cadets.
The Kevin Coupland Memorial Award
The Kevin Coupland Memorial Award is awarded to a first year cadet who exhibits Kevin's qualities of leadership, excellence and hard work.
The Layla Shiber Memorial Award
The Layla Shiber Memorial Award is awarded each year to a graduating cadet. Both his/her peers and instructors elect the candidate based on the attributes outlined by Layla's classmates.
ATCO Scholarship
Each year, ATCO awards two $1000 scholarships to graduating cadets to be used for post-secondary education.
To apply, cadets write an essay based on their community volunteering experience. The cadets write about the importance of volunteering, the skills gained, and how they plan to stay involved in the community once they graduate.
Winners are selected by a panel consisting of employees from ATCO and the Calgary Fire Department.
Community awards
Each year, cadets are nominated for various awards, both locally and nationally. In the past, cadets have received the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, various Youth Leadership awards, and a host of other achievements.
