Free salted gravel – A sand and salt coated gravel mixture called “pickle” is available at no charge for citizens to use on private and public sidewalks. The pickle mixture helps breakdown built up snow and ice on sidewalks so that ice and snow can more easily be removed. The pickle mixture is available in sandboxes outside several fire stations as well as City of Calgary Roads Maintenance District Offices. Please bring your own container to fill, as there are no containers available. Click here for list of Calgary Fire Stations that offer free salted gravel.
