Basin Renovation 2020 - 2022 South Calgary Outdoor Pool

The South Calgary Outdoor Pool basin reached the end of its useful life and needed to be replaced in order to continue operation of the pool. Renovations brought the basin up to modern standards, extended the lifespan of the pool, and enhanced customer experiences and accessibility.

Design

The design for the pool was completed with significant consultation with the Calgary Outdoor Swimming Pool Association (COSPA). The approved design included:

  • A 25-metre pool with swim lanes.
  • A zero-entry teaching area.
  • An accessibility ramp.
  • Upgraded circulation and filtration systems.

Timing and impact

The South Calgary Outdoor Pool was closed for the duration of the 2020 and 2021 seasons. The pool reopened in July 2022.
