Manitou Road Local Drainage Improvement Project

Project Background

As part of The City’s Local Drainage Improvements (LDI) Program, we are working to improve the stormwater system in the Manitou Rd. S.E. area to improve the stormwater system to alleviate excessive pooling and flooding that can happen. 

Project Details

At Manitou Rd S.E., during storms, flooding and pooling are common. This project work will upgrade the existing storm infrastructure with the installation of manholes, backflow prevention valves and raising driveways to reduce pooling and flooding issues.

To address this issue, The City will be raising the driveway entrances of the following locations on Manitou Rd S.E.:

  • 315 Manitou Rd S.E.
  • 415 Manitou Rd S.E.
  • 419-439 Manitou Rd S.E.

Project Timeline

Construction is scheduled to begin the week of July 8, 2024, and will take approximately five weeks to complete.

  • Underground, concrete & asphalt work
  • July 8 – July 15 – Single lane closure on eastbound Manitou Rd S.E (flagger will be directing traffic)

Phase 2: July 17 – July 31, 2024 

439 Manitou Rd S.E. 
  • Underground, concrete & asphalt work
  • July 17 – July 18 – Full road closure in the vicinity of 419 Manitou Rd S.E., with detours provided via Manitoba Rd S.E. & Manilla Rd S.E.
  • July 19 – July 22 – Single lane closure on eastbound Manitou Rd S.E. 

Construction Impacts

  • An increase in on-site construction activity including construction crews, vehicles, and heavy equipment.
  • Increased noise, vibration and dust.
  • Parking restrictions on both sides of the road, within the work area.
  • Sidewalk closure with fencing and signage placed around the work area.
  • Construction will be weather dependent, and timelines may change due to weather, underground conditions and/or other unexpected circumstances.
  • Work hours: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday.
