Glenmore Reservoir Erosion Hotspots
About the project
This project falls within the larger Bank Protection and Stream Health Restoration program. In 2021-2022, The City completed a review of the Glenmore Reservoir to identify locations where erosion is posing a risk to existing infrastructure. The project aims to mitigate erosion risks to infrastructure while enhancing the surrounding public spaces.
The locations at risk at risk are:
- Glenmore Canoe Club
- Glenmore Rowing Club
- Slope of the Rockyview General Hospital
- Glenmore Sailing School
- South shoreline, north of the community of Bayview adjacent to Parks’ pathway. This erosion consists of 11 locations within an 800m stretch of shoreline.
Why are we doing this work
- To address and correct erosion at the Glenmore Reservoir where existing infrastructure is at risk. This project is essential to protect vital infrastructure from erosion to enhance our public spaces.
- To develop a design that will protect weathered areas from future erosion while enhancing public spaces. This is also a placemaking project that will create enhanced seating for visitors, a new ramp into the water for the Glenmore Canoe Club and Glenmore Rowing Club and to provide additional spaces for people to gather.
- To build a resilient and enhanced Glenmore Reservoir area that benefits the entire community.
- This project is part of our larger commitment to protecting and improving our natural and built environments.
Work happening this year
It is anticipated that work to correct these erosion hotspots will begin in spring 2025. Please check back soon for a detailed construction schedule.
