Dead animals on roads
The City responds to thousands of reports of dead animals on our roadways each year.
While most of these are reports of wildlife killed by vehicles, some involve household pets. As a result, The City of Calgary Animal & Bylaw Services and road maintenance, run a joint program which provides closure to pet owners by identifying the remains of cats and dogs killed on Calgary streets.
Calgarians who have lost a cat or dog are encouraged to check for their pet at the Animal Services Centre located at 2201 Portland Street S.E. during business hours.
Calgarians who discover dead cats, dogs, coyotes or raccoons and other wildlife on city streets or public property are encouraged to report them online. Fill out the online form to report a dead animal that needs to be picked up on a City of Calgary roadway, park, sidewalk, backlane or riverbank.
