GamePLAN: Reimagining recreation in Calgary

Reimagining recreation in Calgary GamePLAN

GamePLAN is a vision and strategy for the future of public recreation in Calgary for the next 25 years. It will help increase investment in recreation facilities, programs and services throughout Calgary. It sets a service level standard that responds to record levels of population growth and aging infrastructure.

Why do we need GamePLAN?

Calgary’s public recreation system is under strain from aging facilities, rising costs and growing demand while investments have not kept pace. Without investment and a plan, the system will degrade, facilities will close and services will decline.

Where are we now?

We're moving into a new phase in GamePLAN called the Capital Project Prioritization Program. It is organized into three implementation waves.

Funding projects

Instead of requesting funding for each individual project, we are asking Council to approve funding each budget cycle so the highest-priority work can move forward.

Multiple funding sources

GamePLAN will be funded through a shared funding model that can include:

  • Municipal investment
  • Development-related contributions
  • Partnerships and sponsoships
  • Other levels of government
