The Calgary Climate Symposium explores climate change and its effects on Calgarians. Together, we can create a more resilient city.

The 2024 Calgary Climate Symposium took place from Oct. 21 – 25. It offered a week of knowledge and insights from community leaders, entrepreneurs, climate experts and City staff. We thank all attendees, partners, presenters and special guests for sharing their expertise and passion on climate change. It is one of the biggest issues facing the world today. We look forward to seeing you, on and offline, in 2025.

2024 events

The 2024 Calgary Climate Symposium kicked off with an opening ceremony at the Calgary Central Library. We heard speeches from:

  • Mayor Gondek
  • Deb Hamilton (General Manager, Planning and Development Services)
  • Duane Mistaken Chief
  • Lorna Crowshoe (Sr. Indigenous Policy Strategist, City and Regional Planning) and,
  • Dawn Smith (Manager, Climate Governance and Reporting).

These leaders set the stage for a week of insightful sessions, focusing on:

  • Climate equity
  • Energy-efficient homes
  • Food resilience
  • Electric mobility 
  • And more!

2024 Climate Symposium highlights

  • 10 sessions, 42 experts

    Approximately a thousand people from Calgary and Alberta attended the 2024 Calgary Climate Symposium to learn about the city’s climate action and environmental management.

  • Keynote speaker

    Mayor Gondek’s keynote at the opening ceremony focused on the current climate hazards facing us today. It outlined how we can work together to build a climate resilient future for our city.

  • Climate Strategy

    On the first day, City staff discussed how they’re reducing emissions, making the city more resilient to climate change, and what we can do to help achieve our climate goals.
