Sport Hub pilot project

We conducted a three-year pilot project from 2017 to 2020 that focused on understanding possible improvement areas for the sport system in Calgary.

How we got here

The Sport Hub pilot project was created to try out new ways to help kids and teens enjoy sports and get more involved. The project aimed to remove barriers that stop them from participating and to develop a system that works with different levels of sport organizations in Canada.

What the pilot project focused on

  • Improving access to schools for sport organizations

  • Offering quality youth sport programs

  • Enhancing leadership opportunities in community sport

  • Reducing barriers to participation

  • Developing pathways to transition to higher level sport opportunities

Pilot project testimonials

Sport Hub is a proven tool that can greatly benefit our sport organization. It drives new participants to our club programming while creating new opportunities for our coaches and volunteers to deliver quality instruction in the school and community setting.

Jeremy Hill, Executive Director, Fencing Calgary

The Sport Hub program provides support for how we (the education system) can realize positive physical education outcomes for students. Having a central platform to select different sport offerings and a variety of programming options for our school makes the process of organizing and delivering a specific sport module so much easier.

Steve Cormier, Physical Education & Athletics Teacher, Crossing Park School

The after-school programming was a good opportunity for students to continue to keep playing something they enjoy. Prior to the Sport Hub, we never had access to schools to deliver programming

Burgundy Biletski, Executive Director, Field Hockey Alberta

My Sport Hub coaches were amazing. They taught me so many new volleyball skills and I enjoyed it so much that I decided to join my local volleyball club.
