Technology and Innovation
The City of Calgary uses technology to provide Calgarians with traffic information. This includes real-time information from our traffic signal network, intersection cameras, 911 and 311 systems.
We have recently upgraded our Advanced Traffic Information System (ATIS) to react faster when things happen on our roads. This system collects real-time information from our traffic signal network, intersection cameras, plus Calgary’s 911 and 311 systems.
The City of Calgary has partnered with Waze, a free, two-way data-sharing mobile app that allows citizens to instantly share traffic and road condition information with our Mobility Operations Centre (MOC).
The City of Calgary uses cloud based technology to give Calgarians real-time travel information during their commute. This innovative technology collects live road data and estimates travel times along routes. The time is displayed on electronic message signs at key locations around Calgary.
Cities across the world, including Calgary, are exploring Connected Vehicle technology that can be used to provide safety messages for drivers, warnings to help them avoid collisions and information to manage and prioritize traffic signal operations. It could also provide all road users with real-time, location-specific traffic information through their cellphones.
Here you can view up-to-the-minute traffic camera images of current road conditions on major routes as well as other key intersections. The main purpose of the 100+ traffic cameras is to monitor traffic flow, road and weather conditions and to look for incidents on Calgary roads.
