How to dispose
There are two ways to dispose of food soiled cardboard and paper depending on whether they are soiled a lot or a little amount.
A lot of grease and food
-
Put this in your green cart
- Reuse food-soiled paper bags in your kitchen compost pail.
- Put in your green cart for composting (sauce-covered or lots of food chunks).
Some grease or clean
-
Put this item in your blue cart or drop off at a community recycling centre
Some grease is ok.
Special instructions
- If the item has a glossy shine to it, it must be labelled as “compostable” in order to go in the green bin.
- If you have a container labelled as "compostable", see Compostable Takeout Containers.
Why can't some glossy items be composted?
Items can have a plastic lining to prevent the container from becoming soggy. Keep all plastic out of the green cart.
