Accessibility and inclusion for Council and committee meetings
The City is committed to meeting the diverse needs of the public. We offer accessible services to make participating in Council public hearings and standing policy committee meetings more accommodating and inclusive.
Transit Ticket Program - STARTS JANUARY 2023
The Transit Ticket Program provides two complimentary bus and train tickets to in-person participants at Council public hearings and standing policy committees on the day of their presentation. A valid proof of payment (validated ticket or bus transfer from the same day of your presentation) is required. Please complete the Public Submission form to receive detailed information.
Parking Program - STARTS JANUARY 2023
The Parking Program provides complimentary parking [for up to 6 hours - located in the Calgary Parking (CP) Lot 36 City Hall Parkade, the underground parkade of the Municipal Building – 322 9 Ave S.E. to in-person participants at Council public hearing and standing policy committees on the day of their presentation. Audio visual equipment
Audio visual equipment available for use in the Council Chamber:
- Document viewer (for transparencies or hard copy materials)
- Connection for laptop computers
- WI-fI available during meetings
Accessible Municipal Building and Council Chamber
Council and Council Committee meetings are held at the Municipal Building Council Chambers (800 Macleod Trail SE, Calgary AB T2G 2M3). The accessibility to the Council Chambers supports the inclusion of people with sensory, physical and developmental disabilities to participate. It is wheelchair accessible. If you require additional information on the Council Chamber’s accessibility, contact 311.
American Sign Language (ASL), captioning and alternative communications services
Contact 311 to request ASL, captioning, or alternate communication services. You can also use the 311 Calgary app to submit requests via your smart phone. Provide at least two weeks notice when requesting services. Include the following information:
- Your name
- Your organization (if applicable)
- Event the service is needed for
- Date, time and location of that event
- Number of people attending who will require the service
American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters
ASL interpreters can be booked for public meetings and events. ASL is the primary sign language used in Canada and the United States.
Captioning services
Captioning is effective for the deaf or hard of hearing, but also for people with certain types of learning disabilities and individuals whose first language is not English. Captioning is available during all Council meetings held in the Council Chamber.
Alternate print formats
Print materials in an alternate format such as large print or Braille are available by request.
Assistive listening devices
Available by request for all City Council meetings and all Council committees meetings held in the Council Chamber and the Engineering Traditions Committee Room.
