2025 CCSD By-election: identification requirements

In order to vote in the CCSD By-election, you must bring one of the following:

One piece of identification (ID) issued by a Canadian government (federal, provincial or local), or an agency of that government, that contains your photograph, name and address, including but not limited to: 

  • Alberta Driver’s Licence; 
  • Alberta Identification Card;

or

One piece of ID with your name and current address from the list below.

Government issued documents

  • Government cheque or cheque stub;
  • Income/property tax assessment notice;
  • Statement of government benefits (e.g. employment insurance, old-age security, social assistance, disability support or child tax benefits); 

Other documents

  • Bank/credit card statement or personal cheque;
  • Insurance policy or coverage card;
  • Letter from a public curator, public guardian or public trustee;
  • Pension Plan statement of benefits, contributions or participation;
  • Residential lease or mortgage statement;
  • Utility bill (e.g. telephone, public utilities commission, television, hydro (electric), gas or water);
  • Vehicle ownership, registration or insurance certificate.
  • Correspondence from a school, college or university.
  • Any other identification authorized by the Chief Electoral Officer that contains your name and address.

Attestation

An Attestation Form or letter confirming that you live at the stated address. The letter can be signed prior to the vote by an authorized representative of any of the following:

  • commercial property management company
  • correctional institution
  • post-secondary institution
  • shelter for the homeless
  • supportive living facility or treatment centre

Vouching

A person (e.g. a roommate, neighbour or family member) may vouch for and validate your identity and address if the person vouching is voting at the same designated voting station, and can provide one of the acceptable forms of ID. The person vouching may only do this for one household (maximum) and may not do so if they were vouched for themselves.
