Lilydale poultry factory demolition

The Lilydale Poultry Plant in Ramsay was demolished to make way for the Green Line LRT route near 11 Street S.E. in Ramsay. It included hazardous material abatement, building demolition and site clearing. The location will be used as a laydown area for construction of nearby stations and track.

The City of Calgary took over the site of the former Lilydale plant in Ramsay in January 2022. The City purchased the property to make way for the Green Line and worked with owners, Sofina Foods, to find their new location in southeast Calgary at the Dufferin Industrial Park. 

Work included the removal of interior materials and equipment remaining from the original operations, sorting materials to be recycled, and preparing the building structure for demolition. A slow demolition process was required to prevent the spread of contaminants and dust in the community. 

With the building demolished and site cleared, the area is now set to be used as laydown space during construction of the Green Line LRT. After construction, it is unknown what will occupy the former Lilydale site, but opportunities are expected to include a mix of commercial and residential buildings.
