The station is located near the communities of Copperfield, New Brighton and McKenzie Towne and connects to:
- South Trail Crossing, a large retail and commercial centre at 130 Avenue S.E.
- An employment hub with 4,000 jobs within a 10-minute walk of the station

Within Shepard Station, larger landscaping elements will provide locations for thoughtfully placed art installations. Whether individuals are waiting at transit stops, riding the train, or walking within the station area, they can interact with the art displayed within it.
An event space north of the station for community programming will be framed by raised planters and tree planting. This space also promotes passenger-friendly space to wait in and travel through.
