Chief Administrative Officer role

The Chief Administative Officer reports to City Council, leads the Chief Administrator's Office and all departments of Administration and is responsible for all civic employees. He ensures that The Corporation supports the Mayor and Councillors and delivers on Council's agenda and priorities.

The Chief Administrative Officer directs The Corporation to deliver quality public services for all Calgarians. Calgary has a modern and efficient municipal government that is focused on resilience and continuous improvement to make life better every day for Calgarians by learning from citizens, partners, and others.

Chief Administrator's Office

The Chief Administrator's Office (CAO) ensures The City is a well-run organization that provides value to all citizens. We do this by providing support and strategic advice to Council, the Chief Administrator and all departments at The City. We specialize in looking at the big picture of service delivery, promoting principles of transparency, accountability and good governance.

The CAO provides the following core services: 

  • Coordination and quality review of administrative reporting,
  • Support for the activities of the Executive Leadership Team,
  • Support for strategic initiatives of Council, and
  • Support for the administrative functions of the CAO.
