Forest Lawn Multi-Services Centre

The City of Calgary is creating a Master Plan that will guide the future development of a multi-use recreation hub for the Greater Forest Lawn area. The Master Plan will provide a redevelopment roadmap that will reflect the needs and desires of the community through an extensive public engagement, planning and design program.

Project goals

  • Establish a multi-use recreation hub for the Greater Forest Lawn Area
  • Provide accessible, convenient, safe, affordable and inclusive services to support the aspirations and needs of the diverse local population and organizations
  • Invest in facilities for the Greater Forest Lawn area
  • Provide facilities that broadly support Calgary’s youth, artists, and sports, recreation and multi-cultural organizations

Location

The site is located between 14 Ave SE and 8 Ave SE, and between 47 Street SE and 52 Street SE in Forest Lawn. The site is 26.4 acres and is in close proximity to the City of Calgary’s 17 Avenue Main Streets initiative and the planned 52 Street SE BRT route.

Neighbourhood Streets – Dover

As part of the Neighbourhood Streets Program, The City is working with the community of Dover to improve streets in your neighbourhood and create an inclusive mobile network for all community residents.

This project includes:

  • Creating a walking, cycling, and wheeling connection through the community of Dover
  • Addressing speed and design issues on 34 Avenue SE
  • Providing important connections to existing pathways and bikeways
  • Installing missing sidewalks
  • Providing connections to schools and parks

Franklin Station Area Improvements

On November 12, 2024, Council unanimously approved the request for a land use change of the Franklin Station’s south Park-and-Ride lot. This decision will move the project closer to gaining public space improvements in and around Franklin Station and increase housing supply in the city.

With this approval, a detailed design phase for the site will begin and continue throughout 2025 and into 2026. Thanks to your feedback, this project will allow opportunities for housing partners to build here and introduce public space improvements that may include:

  • Enhanced transit connection for pedestrians and cyclists
  • Improved park space, tree plantings, shrubs, and flowers
  • Welcoming, pedestrian-focused plaza
  • Enhanced safety features throughout the area
