The teams behind the design and construction
Developing and building a modern event centre requires specialized skills and experience. The City and our project partner, the Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation (CSEC), hired industry experts to help manage, design, and build Scotia Place. Each team brings valuable knowledge that will help make Scotia Place a lively and accessible location in the heart of Calgary's Culture + Entertainment District.
CAA ICON: A division of leading entertainment and sports agency Creative Artists Agency (CAA), CAA ICON is the industry’s-leading owner's representative and strategic management consulting firm for public and private sports and entertainment facility owners/operators, professional franchises, and leagues. With more than 65 sports, entertainment, and public assembly projects and over 2,500 consulting engagements, CAA ICON has managed the development of many of the most successful venues around the world, spanning 11 professional sports leagues, totaling nearly $45 billion. CAA ICON offers world-class service in the areas of possibility and planning, project management, strategic advisory, and beyond.
DIALOG: Driven by its core values, DIALOG is committed to changing the world through great design. A complete, B Corp design practice comprising architects, urban planners, interior designers, structural, mechanical and electrical engineers, landscape architects, and sustainability consultants, DIALOG now has over 600 employees across North America. The practice has studios in Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and San Francisco.
HOK: HOK is a group of future-forward thinkers and designers who are driven to face critical challenges. They are dedicated to improving people’s lives, serving clients and healing the planet. HOK’s Sports + Recreation + Entertainment practice has experience in the design of arenas, stadiums, ballparks, training facilities and entertainment centres. The group plans and designs world-class sports complexes that are centre pieces of successful, vibrant entertainment districts, communities and campuses. Other projects include CITYPARK in St. Louis, Missouri; Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia and Rogers Place and the ICE District in Edmonton, Alberta.
Construction Managers
CANA and Mortenson will manage the day-to-day activities of constructing Scotia Place, ensuring the event centre is built on schedule, within budget and according to The City’s design and building standards. They will also coordinate with subcontractors and address any issues that arise during construction.
CANA: For over 80 years, CANA has been a respected service provider in Alberta. They are recognized for delivering projects safely, on budget, and on schedule; and known for their quality strategies, following a think-straight, talk-straight, do-it-right-once approach.
Mortenson: For nearly thirty years, Mortenson has been shaping skylines across the country and building a reputation as a leading name in sports construction. They understand the high level of skill and knowledge required for complex projects. Mortenson recognizes that a well-designed and constructed facility can positively impact revenue, operations, and the fan experience. Other projects of theirs include the Chase Centre in San Francisco, California and the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington.
