Geotechnical Drilling Along the SE Segment
Geotechnical drilling in southeast Calgary, Fall 2023.
Prior to main construction of the Green Line LRT, detailed geotechnical borehole drilling will be completed to test ground conditions at key structure locations. This is the final series of drilling to support detailed design.
Scope of work
This work will comprise geotechnical drilling of approximately 160 boreholes along the SE segment and will provide valuable data on ground conditions that Green Line’s design team will use to optimize the civil design.
Timeline
Geotechnical drilling is anticipated to begin April 21, 2025, and be complete by August 31, 2025. This may be extended if further borehole investigation is identified.
More information
Over the past ten years, Green Line has drilled over 800 boreholes and test pits, providing critical information on soil conditions, bedrock and ground water before main construction begins.
Now that the designs for Green Line structures have reached 60% completion, the exact locations of stations, bridges, retaining walls and guideways are known. More data is required on the ground conditions to support detailed designs, which can allow construction to begin. The data provided from this drilling will support the final designs of all stations and structures on the Green Line.
Location(s)
Drilling will take place in the southeast at key structural locations, such as stations, bridges and retaining walls.
