Looking ahead at 2023 construction

Green Line LRT – A key investment in Calgary’s future
“Green Line is about more than jobs and the economy or overdue transit infrastructure, it is about connecting more Calgarians from across the city to where they work, live and play. Green Line is a transit system and a platform for long-term city building that, while rooted in the realities of today, is forward looking.” – via Calgary Herald
On Friday, the Calgary Herald published an op-ed from Don Fairbairn, Green Line Board Chair, and Darshpreet Bhatti, CEO.

Station and train safety and accessibility features
Questions around safety and accessibility for the future Green Line are some of the top queries on social media.
We’ve recently updated our website to highlight the safety and accessibility-focused design of both the trains and stations.

Looking ahead: 2023 construction
Thank you for your patience as construction proceeds in the Beltline and Downtown to relocate utilities in advance of tunnel and station construction.
This year, utility relocation work will result in significant construction impacts to roadways, intersections and pedestrian walkways. Please be mindful of construction crews and equipment as you travel through impacted areas. To see the full construction impact, please visit our website through the link below.
- In early March, the intersection of 11 Avenue and Olympic Way S.E. will be closed. The closure is expected to last from early-March until mid-June.
- Construction continues on 5 Street S.E. between 11 Avenue and 12 Avenue S.E. As well, 12 Avenue S.E. remains closed to all traffic between 5 Street S.E. and 6 Street S.E. Work is anticipated to be complete in May 2023.
- Extensive work is being done this year to move utilities away from 2 Street, and into 1 and 3 Streets S.W., as well as into all avenues between 2 and 7 Avenues S.W.
If you have any questions or are currently being affected by Green Line construction, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Community & Business Relations team at greenline@calgary.ca.

Green Line's Minecraft station
This year, Green Line is partnering with the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) to give K-12 students an opportunity to design their own, albeit blocky, Green Line LRT station in Eau Claire with Minecraft Education edition.
Season 2 of the Minecraft Design Challenge launched on February 16. Students can now access a custom Minecraft world that includes the heart of Calgary’s downtown to learn about what goes into designing and building a city – including its LRT stations.

Nominate a business to be showcased
This past year we’ve worked closely with several local businesses along the future Green Line alignment. The videos, posted on our website and social media, allow us to shine a spotlight on the business and hear why they are excited for Green Line.
If you know of a small business owner who wants to share a bit about themselves and their connection to Green Line, reach out to us at greenline@calary.ca and we’ll gladly get in touch with them.
