Local business feature - Apik Art Gallery
Since opening their doors six years ago, Apik Art Gallery has been providing the community of Eau Claire with beautiful local art.
The Apik Art Gallery is a family business owned by Tara Peters and Gunnar Johnsen. The gallery is inspired by Balinese beauty and is committed to developing and promoting local artists.
Tara Peters is a psychologist who owns her own private practice, Lemonade Physiology in Bridgeland. She’s also an artist, who uses her travels as inspiration for the collective.
Six years ago, Tara and her husband got the idea for Apik, but they knew they couldn’t do it alone, so they began searching for other artists that share their passion for creativity.
“Our team are inspired by all things beautiful and committed to promoting local artists,” said Tara.
With 12 volunteer artists, Apik has evolved into a collective, a true partnership to promote all things art. This collective provides a welcoming artistic environment for artists to learn, showcase their work, and be part of a unique artistic collective.
“It’s a very special opportunity for individual artists to be part of an art collective,” shared Diana Harris, one of the artists at Apik.
As a registered tourist facility, Apik hosts parties, weddings and other lively community events. With a local jazz band adding a lively ambiance, Apik is the place to be to experience all mediums of art within Calgary.
“We love art, community events and wanted to create something that would give back to the community,” added Tara.
With the projected demolition of Eau Claire market in 2024, Apik Art Gallery is looking to move on from the space, and create a bigger and better atmosphere to showcase the vibrant collection of art.
