Meet the Calgarians building the Green Line - Maurice Balych
Maurice Balych, the Senior Manager of Safety Compliance on the Green Line LRT project, has worked in construction for over 40 years. He’s now using his extensive experience to support the project’s construction workers, as well as keep everyone on site safe.
He’s also a former Royal Canadian Air Force Multi-Engine pilot and has been an air force reservist for 36 years. With the Air Force, he also taught young cadets in ground school about survival and citizenship.
Not only that – Maurice is a certified Master Scuba Diver, making him experienced in safety on the ground, in the air and underwater!
Since he started working for the city in 2018, Maurice has been responsible for making sure safety is the number one priority for all workers at Green Line – and ensuring safety measures are properly implemented on all Green Line construction sites.
“It's a fantastic project for the city, I love working with the people and helping everyone work safely,” explained Balych.
As construction ramps up, Maurice will be hard at work ensuring all Green Line site workers, and Calgarians impacted by construction, stay safe and informed on important policies that benefit everyone involved in the project.
