Calgary Municipal Land Corporation: Transforming downtown’s east end

Through mindful, creative planning and bold city-building ventures, the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC) is transforming downtown Calgary’s east end. With a vision to enhance urban experiences and foster community connections, CMLC has been at the forefront of several landmark projects, including the recently completed BMO Centre expansion.

CMLC was established in 2007 with the mission to revitalize Calgary's downtown east end. This mandate involves investing in public spaces and enhancing public experiences. From developing infrastructure and parks to creating pedestrian-friendly sidewalks like RiverWalk and major vertical builds like the Central Library, CMLC is dedicated to creating vibrant and engaging destinations.

The completion of the BMO Centre expansion is a monumental achievement for Calgary. This project, which has been in the planning stages for decades and under construction for the past four years, represents a significant investment in the heart of downtown. The new tier-one convention facility is expected to be a major draw for tourism and hospitality.

The BMO Centre is not just a venue; it is a catalyst for city revitalization. By offering state-of-the-art spaces for events and conventions, it creates new opportunities for Calgarians and visitors alike to explore and connect with the city. These kinds of architectural investments are crucial as they foster a sense of community and provide spaces for celebration and togetherness.

Another exciting development is the introduction of a Green Line LRT station in the Culture and Entertainment District. Once fully built out, the C+E District will feature three LRT stations (one on the Green Line and two on the Red Line), significantly improving transportation options. Whether traveling by foot, bike, or train, residents and visitors will have easy access to downtown and the cultural heart of the city.

The additional transit opportunities in the district are expected to enhance mobility and accessibility, making it easier for people to engage with the numerous cultural and entertainment offerings. This increased connectivity is a key component of CMLC's vision to create a more inclusive and dynamic urban environment.
