Meet the Calgarians building the Green Line – Stuart Gripton

Stuart Gripton has worked on the Green Line LRT project since 2019, initially as a Senior Access Planner, transitioning into his current role as Business Support Program Lead in 2021. He’s worked with the City of Calgary since the mid-2000s as an Urban Planner, gathering a diverse range of experience in his work with numerous current planning and development projects in the city.

Today, his main responsibilities include working on Green Line’s Businesses Support Program initiatives, which focus on helping businesses and communities prepare for and manage the potential impacts of construction of the Green Line LRT.

“It’s really fascinating getting to work with diverse businesses along the Green Line alignment and see business’ excitement about the end stages and when the project is complete,” said Stuart.

As a former City planner, Stuart has a unique understanding of the challenges that business and communities face during construction.

That’s why he and the Stakeholder Relations team are dedicated to proactively supporting businesses by ensuring that during construction impacts, where possible, businesses can be accessed safely, are clearly informed of construction updates, and are supported and promoted throughout the project.

He also sees the value of a new LRT line as a city-shaping platform, which will allow growth around future station areas and create opportunities for businesses to flourish.

“The Green Line project will benefit businesses and citizens in many ways. Building upon our public transportation system in the city will be so important to help people move through the city equitably and access businesses,” noted Stuart.
