Geotechnical drilling

Geotechnical drilling in downtown Calgary, Fall 2023.

Prior to main construction of tracks, stations, tunnels and bridges, due diligence will be completed to test ground conditions through a series of geotechnical and environmental borehole drilling exercises.

Over the past ten years, Green Line has drilled over 800 boreholes and test pits, providing critical information on soil conditions, bedrock and ground water before main construction begins.

Now that the designs for Green Line structures have reached 60% completion, the exact locations of building structures and tunnels are known. More data is required on the ground conditions to support detailed designs, which can allow construction to begin. The data provided from this drilling will support the final designs of all stations and structures on the Green Line.

Drilling will take place in the downtown and southeast at key structural locations, such as stations, the tunnel boring machine launch site, bridges and retaining walls.

Start Date: September 2024
Completion Date: December 2024
